An Alternative Patching Method
Infrared patching is an alternative, less permanent solution of patching asphalt
by repairing the surface of the existing asphalt. Infrared patching can be used to
repair slight defects or depressions in the asphalt paving surface and damage or sinking around catch basins.
Unlike removal and replacement, infrared repairs the surface of the existing
asphalt combined with new fresh asphalt. Infrared patching is not
recommended in most situations. Where the asphalt has failed due to base
failure or erosion, inadequate depth of asphalt or poor quality materials, removal is recommended.
