Asphalt Information

What is Asphalt?

Asphalt, also know as Bitumen is a mixture of hot crude oil, which binds together aggregates (rocks and sand) to form a solid surface strong enough to support the weight of vehicles. The primary use of asphalt is in road construction, where it is used as the glue or binder for the aggregate particles.

Apshalt Vs. Concrete

Asphalt is generally less expensive than concrete. In addition, the construction time from site preparation to finished product is a much quicker than concrete. Ashalt is also easier to repair than concrete.

On roads and pathways, ashpalt is typically a much smoother and quieter surface than concrete. Asphalt also tends to melt ice quicker than concrete because of its dark coloring, which absorbs heat from the sun.
